Tsutsumi Jujutsu

“Train the body and develop stamina and endurance. But the spirit of competition and power that presides over them is not good, it reflects a distorted vision of life. The root of martial arts is not there.” - Taisen Deshimaru.

About Tsutsumi Jujutsu

Tsutsumi Hozan Ryu Jujutsu is a form of Japanese jujutsu that employs leverage over strength which is key to it’s practicality and effectiveness even when used by smaller individuals. The student will learn from the following groups; break falls, disengaging mechanics, blocks and counter strikes, striking mechanics, body movements, unbalancing principles, hand grips & clothes holds, ground attacks, weapon defence, takedowns, throws, strangles, headlocks, body holds, holds & locks, wall attacks, pressure points, using weapons and strategies for dealing with multiple attackers.

Because of the depth and practicality it is extremely popular with law enforcement, security and military personnel as well as your average person off the street. If you haven’t done martial arts before it can all sound a little daunting but it is very logical and is run in an extremely supportive environment with highly qualified instructors and assistants.

History of Jujutsu

Jujutsu originated in feudal Japan as a battlefield art between warring Samurai clans. While it has been popularised recently by the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), this only represents a small set of the ground techniques included in most traditional styles of jujutsu.

Hans De Jong Self Defence School teaches the traditional Japanese form of Tsutsumi Hozan Ryu. Master Hans De Jong, like his father before him Master Jan De Jong, continues to teach a practical and balanced martial art centred around the principles of zen and self control. Hans De Jong Self Defence School encourages a family friendly school in an environment of mutual respect and personal development. The school has an excellent reputation in Perth as well as amongst the national and international martial arts community and has been teaching high quality jujutsu and self defence since Master Jan De Jong opened his first school in Perth in 1952.
